Our school’s remarkable success has been fueled by the unwavering commitment of our supporters. These resources allow us to develop innovative solutions to meet the unique needs of our school. While we’ve demonstrated our ability to do more with less, with $2,500 in cuts per student in the past two years, we need help to sustain our school and continue to grow.
Our funding needs fall into three main categories that comprise our formula for success:

As a charter school in an underserved community, we have access to roughly half the per-pupil funding from the state, compared to other schools in the surrounding area. The chart at right illustrates the striking disparity in per-pupil funding between EPAPA and our Silicon Valley neighbors.
This funding gap has not translated into an achievement gap, however. On the contrary, our remarkable achievements clearly show that our hard-working students, staff and families make the most of our limited resources. In fact, when it comes to serving traditionally disadvantaged students, besides pushing them harder than our counterparts, EPAPA is clearly better-equipped to serve students who have too often been left behind by the public education system. The chart at right shows how EPAPA students out-perform students from a similar background who attend nearby schools. It's also worth noting that these charts compare the results for only those students who are actually enrolled in college-prep classes. While all EPAPA students are enrolled in courses that satisfy the CSU/UC a-g requirements, at large comprehensive schools, low-income students and students of color are frequently discouraged from taking courses in the "college-prep track".
Our school represents a remarkable proof point for the argument that resources, when placed in the hands of capable professionals with high expectations, can promote amazing results. In short, EPAPA provides a powerful return on investment.East Palo Alto Phoenix Academy
